The Congress for Somali Cause (CSC) has issued an official communiqué strongly condemning the recent irresponsible statement by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who falsely claimed that Dire Dawa city is constitutionally part of the Oromia Region.
CSC considers this assertion a blatant distortion of constitutional facts and historical reality. Dire Dawa has always been a multiethnic city with deep Somali historical and cultural roots, and any attempt to alter its status through political rhetoric or administrative manipulation is unacceptable and dangerous.
The organization warns that such reckless and provocative statements risk igniting severe inter-regional and communal tensions, potentially leading to catastrophic conflict in an already fragile national context.
The Somali people have unequivocally rejected any political bargaining or redefinition of their ancestral land and remain determined to defend their territory, history, and constitutional rights through legitimate and peaceful means.
CSC calls upon the Federal Government of Ethiopia, constitutional experts, and international observers to take note of this alarming rhetoric and to ensure that the rights and boundaries of all regional communities are respected in accordance with the Ethiopian Constitution.
