About Us

Revealing Human Rights Violations Against the Sitti Somali People in Ethiopia.

Who We Are

SittiSomali is a human rights advocacy initiative dedicated to exposing and documenting the grave abuses committed against the Sitti Somali people in the Somali region of Ethiopia

We work to break years of silence, media blackout, and systemic erasure by bringing first-hand accounts, evidence, and testimonies to light.

For decades, the Sitti Somali communities have been subjected to atrocities carried out by the Ethiopian federal army, the Afar regional government, affiliated militias, and armed groups. These violations include massacres, forced displacement, burning of towns and villages, arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial killings—conducted based on ethnicity and geopolitics.

Our Mission

Our mission is to:

  • Gather and document evidence of human and humanitarian rights violations.

  • Expose systematic killings, displacement, and destruction of Sitti Somali communities.

  • Advocate for justice, accountability, and the protection of civilian lives.

  • Support and empower the Sitti Somali people to speak for and defend their own rights.

Our Vission

We envision a future where:

  • The suffering of the Sitti Somali people is no longer silenced.

  • Violations are documented, reported, and challenged.

  • Media blackouts are broken and the voices of survivors are amplified.

  • Justice, accountability, and dignity are restored to affected communities.

Meet Our Team

We are a network of advocates, researchers,  and community members committed to truth and justice. Our work is grounded in first-hand sources, victim testimonies, and collaborative efforts with local and international partners. We also welcome filmmakers, journalists, writers, and human rights experts who can help document and share these realities with the world.

Why Join Us

Your involvement matters. Over 6,000 people—half of them women and children—have been killed, and more than 150,000 forcibly displaced. The massacre of 400 women and children in Gabaissa on July 24, 2021, stands as a haunting symbol of the ethnic cleansing and silence surrounding it.

While the Ethiopian government and international bodies remain largely unresponsive, you can help:

  • Break the silence.

  • Support justice efforts.

  • Contribute to documentation, research, and awareness.

  • Stand in solidarity with victims and survivors.
